AMU to organize international seminar on higher education

Aligarh: The University Grants Commission (UGC) Academic Staff College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has organized International Seminar on 'Envisioning Quality: Academic professionalization in Higher Education based on Indo-British Experiences' on February 6-7, 2010.

National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) funds this seminar. The leading British academicians - Professor Gordon Campbell (University of Leicester, UK), Ms. Elizabeth Grant (UCL Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching, University College London, London UK) and Ms. Brigitte Picot (Director, UCL Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching, University College London, London UK) will deliver lectures on various issues and trends of higher education.

Among other eminent speakers at the seminar are Professor Shamim Jairajpuri (Former Vc, MANUU, Hyderabad), Professor John Jacob Katakayyam (Director, ASC, University of Kerala), Professor Mohd Muzammil (University of Lucknow), Professor S.N. Pathan (VC Nagpur University), Professor M.M. Kidwai (VC Gwalior University), Professor Harikesh Singh (NUEP A, New Delhi), Professor Farhatullah Khan (Professor Emeritus), Professor C.P.S. Chauhan (Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, AMU) and Professor Ruqayya Zainuddin (Chairman, Department of Education, AMU).

The seminar will be held at the department of education. Around 100 University/ College teachers and research scholars of the department will attend this seminar.

According to Professor A.R. Kidwai, Director, UGC Academic Staff College, AMU and Convenor of the seminar, it will go a long way in identifying the professional needs of University/ College teachers, sharing the experiences of academic professionalization in higher education, informing policy on incorporating the latest learning and teaching innovations in the sector and sensitizing academic leaders to the new challenges and prospects.

The British experts will make presentations about the staff development programmes at British Universities. All this will promote internationalization of education.

Professor P.K. Abdul Azis, Vice Chancellor, of the university has consented to inaugurate the seminar on February 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. This two-day long seminar has attracted educationists from various parts of the country.
