17-yr-old claims brother raped her

A 17-year-old orphan girl has accused her elder brother of rape. Though the brother has been arrested by the cops, the family claims the girl's allegation are false. The cops have also arrested the girl's lover under kidnapping and rape charges.

Police said though the incident took place in 2005, at the victim's residence under the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar police, the victim spoke about it during counselling on Wednesday at a shelter home on Katol Road.

The victim, youngest among four siblings, lost her parents around seven years ago. Cops said the girl's father had died of cancer while her mother had a natural death. Since then, the four siblings (two brothers and sisters) stayed at their residence with elder brother Deepak Chaudhary (23) (name changed), who was the only earning member.

Deepak works at a petrol pump and had got married just six months ago, said a family member.

According to the cops, the victim had fled with her lover from her residence on Monday evening. On receiving a missing complaint from the family members, the cops caught the girl from Butibori and her lover Amol Tayde from Hingna on Tuesday.

Police said the girl's love story started just fifteen days ago, when Tayde had gone to repair a geyser at her residence. Since then the two had entered into a relationship and eloped from home.

On interrogation by cops, the girl said that she was taken to the Butibori residence of some relatives of Tayde. The couple stayed there for the night and the next morning Tayde left for Hingna for some work, the girl said in her statement.

Meanwhile, Tayde was arrested and booked for rape and kidnapping charges. The victim in her initial statement complained that she felt abandoned at her home and was often tortured by her brothers. "She said there were even restriction on her going out of the house," said police sub-inspector Vijay Akot. He added that since the girl had refused to go back home, she was taken to the Karuna Mahila Vasatigriha on Katol Road.

During counselling by shelter home officials, the girl told them that she was raped by her brother in 2005 when she was alone at home and her brother had come home heavily drunk. She also alleged that though he had attempted to rape her a second time in 2007, she fled from home.

On getting this version, the shelter home officials filed a complaint with the cops, who registered a case and arrested the accused brother also.

The girl told the cops that though she had told her other siblings about the rape by the elder brother, no one had taken her complaints seriously, and she was subjected to even more strict rules by the brother.

Contrary to the girl's allegations, the siblings and relatives claimed that the girl might have been pressurised by her lover to give the statement. "Since the boy is famous for his bad image in society, we never liked him. The boy also picked up fights with the brother," said the younger brother. He added that the girl had many love affairs in school, and hence she had not been allowed to go for higher education.
