Villagers oppose power lines

The villagers of Khandala, Pardi, Bharatwada and Bramhanwada have strongly opposed the proposal to lay 220 KV and 400 KV power transmission lines.

Khandala-Bramhanwada Sangharsh Samiti has said in a press release that while they were fighting for their rights, district collector Pravin Darade had charged them with obstructing government work. The collector had convened a meeting at 11.30am in his office to discuss the issue.

The samiti said that the farmers whose land was being acquired were small farmers and would lose their source of livelihood if they lost their land. "Three 220 KV transmission lines already pass through Mahurzari village (off Katol Road). Now government wants to lay another 220 KV line and survey is going on," Amol Bhange said.

He further said that in the Koradi-Wardha 400 KV line project the contractor was deliberately taking a longer path to earn more money.
